Passanger Transport

Bay Islands Transit (BIT) operates a fast, comfortable  passenger ferry service to the SMBI Islands – 7 days per week – 365 per year. The round trip (fare each way)  Redland Bay to  Redland Bay takes approximately 50 minutes. Travel between islands is FREE; you can island hop as frequently as you wish.
 The service commences at Russell Island at 4.20/5.30  am and runs through to 10/11/12  pm -  depending on the day of the week. Public holidays (except Christmas Day) are  a Sunday timetable, unless otherwise published. It is a frequent service, with ferries departing generally very half an hour. All ferry services go to all islands.  The BIT   friendly staff are happy to help you plan your trip to the SMBI.

The ferries depart from Weinam Creek Marina, Southern End of Banana Street, Redland Bay. A ticket office is located at this terminal. 7 Days enquiries telephone 3206-8803.   (Mon-Fri  3409-1145)
Fares  - Bay Island Transit operate under the Translink network and Go Card is the cheapest and most efficient method of payment (It is a 6 Zone fare – 30% discount on one-way ticket ). All current Translink conditions apply to the ferry service, transfers, peak/ off peak periods. Go Cards can be topped-up at our ticket office at Redland Bay. One- way only paper tickets can be purchased at the ticket office or on board (cash only on ferry).   Pension (Qld only) Seniors, Veteran Affairs, and tertiary students must produce identification to obtain a concession.                                                                                                
Bicycles – are welcome, there is no charge – please bring a strap to tie it down (carriage may be subject to loadings).
Mobility aids/scooters -  these items must meet the Department of Transport and Main Roads  guidelines for dimensions, gradient ability etc. For more information go to the DTMR website. (carriage may be subject to loadings)
Animals – All dogs, regardless of size or age must be muzzled or contained. Any other animal must be contained.  Animals must be clean and dry.
Freight – Accompanied freight is not charged; restrictions apply and it is at the discretion of the ferry Master at all times as what will be carried on a service, subject to loadings.
Freight not permitted – furniture, white goods, mirrors, glass, items longer than 2.4 metres, large building items, mini motorbikes. Lawn mowers and whipper snippers must be emptied of fuel.

Since commencing operation 50 years ago with the first vehicle ferry, MV Myora, Stradbroke Ferries has grown to become the largest marine operator in Moreton Bay, with seven vehicle ferries and one water taxi. Today Stradbroke Ferries operates vehicle ferries and water taxi services to Straddie and vehicle ferry services to the Southern Bay Islands of Lamb, Karragarra, Macleay and Russell.The Redland Bay terminal for services to Russell, Lamb, Macleay and Karragarra Islands is located on Weinam Street. At the departure terminal there is a reservations office where the friendly staff can answer any questions that you may have. A range of information brochures about the islands is also available.
