Macleay Island Classic - 8th Canoe Race
Macleay Island 8th Anual Kajak Race 10th Of April 2016
The Macleay Island Classic is a canoe race around Macleay Island, which is located in southern Moreton Bay, Queensland. It is now in its 8th year with many paddlers travelling from coastal New South Wales and Queensland to compete wach year.
This event is one of the few that offers spectacular views while you paddle around the 15km course. Where else can you enjoy a site seeing experience while competing in a race?
Organised by the Tingira Boat, cash prizes are offered to the first, second and third male and female across the line. Trophies are also awarded to the winners of each category which is designated by age and craft type.
New This Year - Team Event Trophy
This year, for the first time we have decided to introduce a team trophy. Teams i.e. Canoe Clubs will be able to register online and invite their members to join the team. At the end of the race, the times of the first six team members will be totalled and the winning time will win the trophy. Single crafts only.
Competitors will still be eligible for the individual prizes, i.e. First, second and third and categories.
To assist those who may not be able to complete the 15km, a relay race is included where teams of five, take a leg each to paddle around the island. They compete to win the Tingira Boat Club Relay Race Trophy.
